The legend goes that a bartender in Milan was making a traditional Negroni (Gin, Campari, Sweet Vermouth) and mistakenly grabbed a bottle of Prosecco instead of gin. The result? The Negroni 'Sbagliato' (which translates directly to 'mistaken').

At Bella Firenze, we love the Sbagliato because it carries the bitter, complex herbs of a Negroni but has a lighter, effervescent lift that makes it the ultimate pre-dinner drink.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Campari
  • 1 oz Cocchi Storico Vermouth di Torino (or a good sweet vermouth)
  • 1.5 oz dry Prosecco
  • Large ice cube
  • Orange peel for garnish

"The secret to a great Sbagliato is the ice. You want a massive chunk so it chills the drink without diluting the delicate bubbles of the prosecco too quickly."

Method

Add the Campari and Vermouth to a rocks glass over a large ice cube. Stir gently for 10 seconds to chill. Top gracefully with the Prosecco, give it one final, gentle fold with your spoon, and express the oils from the orange peel over the top before dropping it in.
